Local Tip

Booking online in advance is mandatory — walk-ins are not allowed. Shoe covers are provided and required. The combo ticket with the canyon hike is worth it.

The Bridge

430 meters long, 6 meters wide, 300 meters above the canyon floor. The glass panels are 4cm thick and tested to hold 800 people. (You’ll feel every step regardless.)

The bridge opened in 2016 and briefly held multiple world records. It connects two cliffs in the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon scenic area, about 30km from the main Wulingyuan park.

The Grand Canyon Hike

The combo ticket includes a hike through the canyon below. It’s a 5.4km trail that follows a stream through narrow gorges, waterfalls, and bamboo forest. Less crowded than Wulingyuan and genuinely beautiful. Allow 3–4 hours.

Booking

You must book online before arriving. There’s a daily visitor cap. During peak season (national holidays, weekends in October), slots can sell out days in advance.

Book through official channels or a hotel. Watch out for third-party resellers charging inflated prices.

Practical Tips

  • Arrive early. Even with a time-slot booking, the experience is better without 200 people inching across next to you.
  • Don’t look down immediately. Give yourself a moment at the entrance to adjust. Most people relax after the first 50m.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. The shoe covers they provide are slippery on the glass — flat-soled shoes work best underneath.
  • The canyon hike is underrated. Many visitors skip it and just do the bridge. Don’t — the gorge trail is a highlight.
