Wulingyuan

Avatar Mountains (Wulingyuan Scenic Area)

The floating sandstone pillars that inspired the Hallelujah Mountains in Avatar. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the heart of Zhangjiajie — but knowing when and how to visit makes all the difference.

¥248 (4-day pass) · 7:00am – 6:00pm

Tip: Arrive at the South Gate by 7:30am on weekdays to beat the crowds. Weekends in October are brutal — plan accordingly.

Tianmen

Tianmen Mountain & Heaven's Gate

A separate mountain from Wulingyuan with a natural arch you can walk through, a glass-bottom skywalk, and the world's longest cable car. Totally different experience — worth a full day.

¥285 round-trip cableway package (¥149 discount / ¥113 special) · 8:00am – 5:30pm

Tip: The cable car from the city center takes 30 minutes and is genuinely spectacular. Don't skip it by taking the bus up — the ride IS part of the experience.

Suoxiyu

Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge

The world's longest and highest glass-bottom bridge, spanning 430m across a canyon in the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Scenic Area. Separate from Wulingyuan — plan it as a half-day trip.

¥138 (bridge only) or ¥268 (canyon + bridge combo) · 8:00am – 5:00pm (last entry 4:00pm)

Tip: Booking online in advance is mandatory — walk-ins are not allowed. Shoe covers are provided and required. The combo ticket with the canyon hike is worth it.
